Medicare Agent Onboarding Process
At Smart Insurance, the onboarding and licensing process is not self-guided. Each agent receives dedicated one-on-one support at every stage of the onboarding process. Our team works closely with each agent to ensure they feel confident and well-prepared, making the onboarding experience highly personalized and focused on long-term success.
State License
Obtain a state-issued Health Insurance License, which legally authorizes you to sell health and Medicare-related insurance products.
E&O
Errors & Omissions insurance with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 is required as part of onboarding process. Agents must secure and register their E&O coverage before proceeding to the next steps.
Contract
Sign an agent agreement with Smart Insurance to operate under our agency and gain access to training, support, and carrier partnerships.
Appointment
Complete appointments with insurance carriers such as UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Anthem, Humana, CareFirst, Johns Hopkins, Wellcare and others to become authorized to sell their plans.
AHIP
Complete the AHIP Medicare certification annually to meet CMS compliance requirements and stay current with Medicare regulations.
Certificate
Complete annual carrier certification exams to remain authorized to sell each carrier’s Medicare products.
Ready to Sell
Once all certifications are completed, agents are fully authorized to sell products from all carriers for which they are certified.
